 김상철 (金尙喆)

 

 


  1736년(영조 12) 정시문과에 을과로 급제하고,
  지평, 교리, 대사간, 한성부 판윤, 이조,병조,형조의 판서, 평안도 관찰사,
  1757년(영조 29) 충청도 관찰사를 거쳐
  1766년(영조 42) 우의정에 오르고
  1772년 좌의정,
  1775년에는 영의정에 올랐다.
  학덕이 뛰어나 영조의 신임을 받았고,
  우의정 때 우리나라 문물과 제도를 부분별로 망라한 문헌의 필요성을 느껴 왕에게 건의, 찬칩청을 두어
  1770년 (영조 46) '동국문헌비고'를 편찬케 함으로써 뒷날 많은 편의를 가져왔다.
  1781년 (정조 5) 기로소에 들어간 후 영중추부사가 되었다.
