김수의 아들이다.
1275년(충렬왕 원년) 15세로
감시에 수석 합격, 이듬해 문과에 급제, 판도총랑, 우승지를 거쳐
1302년
밀직부사가 되었다. 뒤에 원나라로부터 정동행 중서성 낭중을 임명받았아으며,
지밀직사사, 판삼사사를 거쳐 충숙왕 때 중찬에 이르렀다.
